- Known as "One Play McAfee" because he usually scored so quickly
- Philadelphia coach Greasy Neale said "George McAfee is the greatest plunging and quick opening back I have ever seen
- Curly Lambeau said McAfee was "the most talented back the Packers ever faced"
- Red Grange complimented by saying McAfee was "the most dangerous man with the football in the game"
- Introduced the use of low-cut shoes for speed
